Sazerac

The Sazerac is a local variation of a cognac or whiskey cocktail, named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils brand of cognac that was its original main ingredient.

Ingredients

  • 2 fl oz. rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube sugar
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 1 rinse absinthe

Directions

  1. 1Rinse a chilled old-fashioned glass with absinthe, discard excess.
  2. 2In a mixing glass, muddle sugar cube with bitters.
  3. 3Add rye whiskey and ice, stir until chilled.
  4. 4Strain into the prepared glass.
  5. 5Garnish with lemon peel.
